Facelift

The skin on the face and neck is usually the first area to show the signs of aging. The years, the elements, stress and genetics all contribute to sagging skin and wrinkles on the cheeks, jawline, and neck. With today’s advancements in facelift surgery, growing older does not have to involve looking older, so why let the years give away your age?

A facelift can help you look younger and more refreshed than you have in years. Dr. Glenn M. Davis, Dr. Jeremy Pyle, and Dr. Benjamin Wood are experienced Raleigh facelift surgeons who are known for creating a naturally enhanced look, without the stretched or overly pulled appearance sometimes associated with facelift surgery.

Understanding Facelifts

The term “facelift” can often be misunderstood. It’s important to understand that a facelift will not address concerns in the upper third of the face as this procedure rejuvenates the mid to lower portion of the face, and the neck, for more complete results. By tightening lax skin and muscles, repositioning or removing excess fat, and smoothing wrinkles, a facelift by Dr. Davis, Dr. Pyle, or Dr. Wood can deliver dramatic results. Our patients still look like themselves, only younger and more relaxed.

If you have concerns about the appearance of your eyes, your surgeon may suggest including eyelid surgery to resolve droopy eyelids. To reduce excess fat under the chin and along the neck, facial liposuction may be a good option in cases where excess, loose skin is not an issue.

Many patients seeking facelift surgery may enhance or preserve their results with popular non-surgical treatments like BOTOX® Cosmetic and injectable fillers to keep lines and wrinkles at bay, and Fraxel® Dual or chemical peels for more even skin tone and smoother texture.

Willa - Real Patient, age 69“For a few years I had begun to see the lines and sagging that only nature can bring. I was still in the work force and I wanted to maintain a still-youthful appearance. I did a lot of research on doctors in the Raleigh area and asked a lot of questions as well. After I did my homework on Dr. Glenn Davis, and after my consultation I knew he was the only one I trusted with my face. When you walk into his office the attention you get from his staff makes you feel like you are the number one and only client that walks through that door.”*

The Best Candidates

Good candidates for a facelift are women and men who have concerns with sagging skin on the face, jawline and neck, yet still retain skin elasticity and a strong underlying bone structure. Most patients are between 40 to 70 years old, although facelifts may be done successfully on older individuals as well. The bottom line: everyone ages differently, and every facelift will be custom-tailored to your individual needs.

What to Expect

Since every facelift procedure may vary, the placement of the incisions may also vary, depending on the amount of correction needed. During the procedure, inconspicuous incisions are made around the ears or into the hairline, and when fully healed, should be undetectable. Through the incisions, Dr. Davis, Dr. Pyle, or Dr. Wood will tighten the muscles, reposition the soft tissues and remove excess fat if needed. The skin will then be re-draped and trimmed appropriately to reveal a smoother more sculpted appearance. The incisions are then closed with fine sutures and bandages will be applied for support and protection.

After Your Procedure

Following your facelift, your face may feel tight and sore at first, and there will be some swelling and bruising. We encourage you to sleep in an upright position for the first week to reduce swelling. Ice packs are also encouraged to minimize swelling and to provide comfort. Sutures are removed in approximately 5 days. Even though swelling and bruising may still exist at this point, many patients are already amazed with their results. Most of our facelift patients are ready to return to work in about two weeks, depending on the extent of their surgery.

The New You

While it’s likely you’ll notice immediate improvements, the final results of your facelift may take a few months to fully appreciate. Our facelift patients usually enjoy more definition along the jaw line and smoother skin across the lower face and neck. We hope that you will now smile at the “younger looking you” staring back in the mirror, and face each day with a renewed sense of confidence for years to come.
